Nature can heal hurting hearts
What we focus on and what we think about is what we see in the world around us. When we've experienced trauma, hurt, and darkness, that tends to be the lens through which we look at the world.
Changing this perspective and healing can take time. But, like all things, it starts with a choice to seek after something different. You can choose right now, wherever you are, to see the good and beauty in the world around you.
After all, Christ repeatedly taught that "the kingdom of Heaven is at hand." He didn't say, the kingdom of Heaven is some far off distant place that you can experience after you die. He was talking about right here, right now.
For me, the earth itself is healing. We spend so much time indoors now, and are missing out on all of the good that comes from the world around us.
We are made of the same materials as nature...what aspect of nature do you feel called to? Some people are beach lovers, others love the mountains.
Slowly, I'm transforming our yard into something that is healing and beautiful, heeding what my heart is calling out for. That means some food, but mostly herbs and flowers. When I received this poem, I was out enjoying my yard in July. I like to walk around and notice what the plants are doing, and see what they might be needing. We have conversations.
Yarrow (achillea millefolium) is a wonderful herb. It's pretty, has many medicinal purposes, and can also be a great ground cover to replace some of your grass. I like to let it grow big and tall to harvest those beautiful white flowers.

This day, yarrow reminded me that I am beautiful and whole at my center. Nature is so kind...she will remind us that we are one, whole and complete, if we but let her.
Yarrow
My garden needed some love today,
But truly the receiver was me.
When yarrow called me by a name
That had been lost to me.
"Jenny" is not my name today.
But was the one of my youth.
Yarrow called me back to this time
To remind me of a truth.
"Thank you yarrow, you're beautiful!"
And came the kind reply,
"So are you!" so sweetly said,
It brought a tear to my eye.
Take time to see, to remember,
To uncover the goodness that's been lost.
And as your heart does open,
You'll see it's only been covered with frost.
The truth has always been there,
Even if seeped in pain.
Allow the goodness around you,
To bring it out again.
Who you are at your center is perfect, whole and complete. It may not feel that way at times. Turn to the world around you and seek for the nurturing your need through nature. She will remind you of the truth of who you are. You truly are a child of God, made in the image of God (Genesis 1:26). Seek for that truth when you need peace and comfort.
