What if there was one thing you could do to ensure that you have a great day, every day? Would you do it? Of course you would! If you want to have a great day, you have to start your day right. Rolling out of bed at the last possible minute to quickly get dressed and out of the door is not going to cut it.

What not to do!

Here's an experience I had that taught me what not to do if I want to have a great day! My husband and I woke up and just chilled in bed, chatting and snuggling. (So far, so good.)
We got up, showered, dressed, had breakfast. We had an event we had to go to, and we arrived just as it was starting.
Sounds like a pretty typical morning, something I bet most of you can relate to. What is missing is my description of the underlying energy of the morning....even though we had a nice time before we got out of bed, I was feeling irritable and out of sorts. My husband noticed. He felt similarly. We didn't argue, but we weren't our normal playful, happy selves.
"I didn't meditate this morning," I said. I have a morning routine that includes Kundalini yoga, meditation, reciting my goals & affirmations and praying. THEN I get started with the rest of my day. I eat breakfast, and then the two of us read scriptures together. This particular day I chose to skip those things.
"When we get back, you're doing your yoga. You're going into time out," my husband said. Excellent idea!
Do this instead

A few hours later, back at home, I was in our meditation room, happily going through my routine. When I was done, the two of us read scriptures. Then we were off for our date, to the local Botanical Gardens. We had a fantastic time, enjoyed a beautiful day outside and wonderful conversation.
From this experience, I was reminded how important it is for me to do those things first that set my mind in order and align me with a higher purpose.
It is easier for my to follow negative thoughts or to be negative when I skip my morning practice. I have learned that the most important thing I can do for myself each morning is to fill my mind with positive thoughts and with love. It sets me on the right path for the rest of the day.
Here are three things you can do for yourself to make sure that you have a great day.
- Figure out what you need to focus your mind on the right things. Learn what helps you to tune into and connect with God, with the Divine nature in each of us, and with channels of love.
- Prioritize your morning so that you can do these important tasks. Set aside the necessary time and space.
- Set your intention the night before to wake up when you need to and to devote time to your routine.
Like any new habit, this may take some time to become part of your regular routine.
Pay attention to how you feel on the days that you do these things for yourself and the days that you don't.
Help your family be aware of the better person you are when you take this time for yourself so that they can support you in doing so. If you have children, consider something that the entire family can do together so that everyone is tuned in to love and also connected to each other.
Commit to your morning routine
- Determine what you need to do each morning to feel connected with God and yourself
- Make this time a priority! We need to take care of ourselves before we can take care of others.
