There are those who embrace the idea of a Christian medium, and those who condemn it as being not Biblical. As a Christian medium myself, I hope this post will help answer your question: Can a Christian be a medium?
We'll cover these 3 aspects of being a Christian medium:
- What is a medium?
- What does the Bible says about mediums?
- My own experiences
First, what is a medium?
When people think of mediums, they often conjure images of Ouija boards or have the idea of a séance. The image is of people seeking to bring forth a deceased person to talk with them.
Some people may do these things. But what is the definition of a medium?
Here are two definitions of medium (source):
- Between two things, or something in the middle;
- Someone who is a channel of communication between the earthly world and the world of spirits.
Essentially, a medium is a go-between. Mediums have the psychic gifts of clairvoyance (clear seeing) and/or clairaudience (clear hearing).
A medium is a person who can see and/or hear things that are not of our physical world.
The physical world is only a very small part of what is “real.” God created all things. All things are spiritual, and have a spirit. They were first created in spirit form. When we die, we return to the spirit world.
As a medium, I have the ability to hear and see those in the spirit world. I like to think of it as my Uncle Jack said, "you have the gift of sight."
What does the Bible say about mediums?
The Bible is pretty clear about talking to the dead. Let's look at two verses.
Leviticus 19:31 says, “Do not defile yourselves by turning to mediums or to those who consult the spirits of the dead. I am the LORD your God. (New Living Translation)
It’s important to understand WHY the LORD gave this commandment. Why would he forbid talking to the dead?
Through Moses, the LORD had led captive Israel out of bondage from the Egyptians. The Israelites had forgotten their God. They were partaking of idol worship.
When the Israelites got to the promised land, God was clear that they were to remain faithful to him, and to him only. Blessings would come by keeping his commandments. (The same is true today, of course.)
People went to a medium to seek for the dead as a way to receive guidance in life. These people were seeking after an idol. They were putting someone else before God.
There’s another scripture that makes this clear:
"So Saul died for his breach of faith. He broke faith with the Lord in that he did not keep the command of the Lord, and also consulted a medium, seeking guidance. He did not seek guidance from the Lord. Therefore the Lord put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse." (1 Chron 10:13-14, English Standard Version)
Saul consulted with a medium to seek guidance. He sought the medium when he should have been seeking the Lord.
At the core of being a medium, and of the use of the gift, is the purpose behind it. If you’re consulting a medium, why? If someone is using this gift, why are they using it?
My own experiences as a Christian medium
Having the ability to see and talk with the dead is not a gift I sought after. And, in true medium fashion, I talk with the spirits of trees and of the earth, too. I am the one in the middle between the living and the dead.
My first step was seeking the Lord's guidance. I have the gift of healing, and was using it, but felt like there was more I could do. I prayed and asked if I could use my gift better.
The Lord answered by guiding me to quit my job, and to learn The Emotion Code and The Body Code.
In 2015, I went through certification for The Body Code. The Emotion Code and The Body Code are powerful forms of healing. They were created by Dr. Bradley Nelson. Dr. Brad is a faithful Christian who received both by revelation.
Imbalances in the body can contribute to disease. Muscle testing is a means of uncovering these imbalances. The Body Code finds these imbalances by asking Yes/No questions using muscle testing.
One day, I was using The Body Code on myself. I was out of sorts, and feeling irritable. Getting a clear answer was a struggle. As I sat on the couch, I was moving quickly through it, not being in tune or listening.
I released a trapped emotion and then stopped. A spirit woman sat down next to me, put her arm around me. She said, “Slow down. It’s not about getting it done, it’s about listening to the Spirit.”
She appeared all white, and her presence was calming.
This was my first experience with someone from the spirit world.
More spirits appear
Three years later, I was doing a session on a woman. As we worked together, I saw her grandfather appear. It was touching and beautiful. He had a message of love for her, and she was so grateful.
As I continued to develop my gift and talent for energy work, spirits would appear. My grandfather showed up one day as I worked on myself. I could sense that he was curious about what I was doing.
As my gifts have developed, I have come to see and hear the spirit world more and more. I have prayed to understand why I have this gift, and more importantly, what to do with it.
Accepting the gift of being a medium
Like other Christian mediums, I have struggled to accept it. But, one of the gifts and opportunities in having an awareness of the spirit world is learning to discern. I’ve gotten quite good at discerning the nature of those who come to me.
As I have sought the counsel of the Lord, he has always encouraged me to continue on. My focus is always on turning to Heavenly Father and to Jesus first, and then to discern what they would have me do.
One day, the Lord told me to start offering medium services. I resisted. “You know that my faith opposes this work, right?”
He simply said, “You already have the gift. Use it to help my children.”
I talk with deceased who share their stories of coming unto Jesus Christ. They talk about searching for and finding him after death. They share truths about baptism and covenants, about faith and obedience.
I also have been instructed to talk with Mother Nature. I can converse with the trees and the land. So I spend time gathering those stories and wisdom as well, and sharing them, too.
The purpose is to bring people to Christ
Always, with all I receive, the goal is to bring others unto Christ. It is to bring healing to weary hearts, and hope to souls downtrodden from the challenges of this world.
In my medium sessions, family members appear, and there is always forgiveness and healing. It is a beautiful thing to be able to create an environment where families can find forgiveness.

I know that our Savior loves us. I know that the abilities I have as a medium are a gift from my Heavenly Father, and like all spiritual gifts, are meant to be used to bless his children.
I am grateful for the opportunities I have to commune with the spirit world and to share messages of Jesus, of love, and of hope to the world.
I pray that you may seek after your Savior to inquire about and develop your own gifts in service of your fellow brothers and sisters. As you grow in faith, he will guide you in all things.
