Tired of that nagging pain? Try this simple thing to start feeling better right away.

 May 22, 2018

When it comes to dealing with uncomfortable situations, most people take a "wait and see" approach. We think, if I just give it another week, it'll get better. This holds true for physical injuries and pain and for uncomfortable emotional situations we're in, like relationship issues. But what if there was one simple thing you could do in any of those cases to get unstuck and start moving forward?

The solution to get unstuck is the same whether it's a physical problem or an emotional one.

Most people in physical pain tend to think that the best thing they can do is be still. They have this fear that moving is just going to make things worse, because it's often uncomfortable.

However, the exact opposite is true (in most cases). If we're hurting, it's usually because we've been too immobile and we're stiff and sore and stuck.

The same is true for our emotional hurts. We're often repeating the same pattern over and over again, not actually moving forward. It's movement we need, not more of the same.

Start moving!

It doesn't matter that you don't know exactly what to do or in which direction to go. The first thing is to just start moving.

Our bodies were designed to move. Likewise, energy is meant to move. Think of a stagnant pond compared to a flowing stream. Which feels like it has more life to it, and more energy to it?

If it's your physical body where you're in pain, start moving - get out of your chair more, take a short walk, park farther from the store entrance.

If it's an emotional issue, try something different - change the way you think about the situation, or choose to see it in a different light.

Allow other sensations to surface

As you start to take action, you'll find that other parts of you might start to feel sore or uncomfortable.

If this is an emotional issue, perhaps other challenges will surface. That's ok! This is NOT a sign to stop what you've started, it's a sign that you're creating change and that's a good thing. Keep moving and being consistent for a period of time.

Some of these sensations will settle down and disappear. Others will continue to be present.

The ones that are still present are the ones you will need to pay attention to next as you keep moving.

Learn how to get unstuck and stop the pain

  • Take action! Energy needs to flow, both physically and emotionally. What is one thing you can do differently today to create movement?
  • Accept other uncomfortable sensations as they arise. Once you start to move, you may experience other feelings that you don't like. That's a good thing! Keep moving and give the new sensations some time to see what they have to teach you about the situation and where else healing is required.

How have you found it helpful to just start moving in your own life?
